Mental Health and Substance Use Together

Integrated assessment considers both mental-health and substance-use concerns instead of treating one as an afterthought.

Describe the whole picture

Mood, anxiety, trauma, sleep and substance use can interact. Share medication and health concerns privately with a clinician. An assessment helps identify needs and select the appropriate combination of services.

Coordinate a realistic plan

Treatment may include behavioral therapy, medical evaluation, medications through appropriate providers and recovery support. Ask how referrals and communication will work with your consent. Do not change prescribed medications based on an online article.

Review changes early

If symptoms worsen or substance use recurs, reconnect with the team rather than waiting. A care plan may need adjustment. Use 988 for a mental-health or substance-use crisis and 911 for immediate danger or a medical emergency.
